Covanta SEMASS Facility  – AWARD

Covanta has awarded our Pittsburgh Operating Entity a contract for the design/supply/erection of pulse jet fabric filter (PJFF) equipment for Units 1 & 2 at the SEMASS facility in West Wareham, Massachusetts, USA. The facility converts Municipal Solid Waste to steam/electricity while providing MSW disposal for the Boston and local areas.

The PJFFs will replace aging Electrostatic Precipitators installed downstream of Spray Dryer Absorbers, collecting the SDA byproduct. Both PJFFs will be installed while the units are operational with short outages for tie-in. One of the reasons Wood was selected for this work was due to the novel layout approach with PJFFs of both units combined into a common structure adjacent to the ESPs, allowing for simultaneous installation and short outages. The units are expected to be commissioned in January 2021.

Duke Energy Mayo Plant – AWARD

Duke Energy has awarded our Wood a contract for the design/supply of ammonia stripping equipment for the 727 MWe coal-fired Mayo Plant in Roxboro, North Carolina, USA.

This project will convert from anhydrous to aqueous ammonia allowing Duke to avoid the high annual cost associated with anhydrous safety permitting as well as to achieve vaporization at a fraction of the power consumption of traditional systems.  The ammonia stripping system builds upon mature, sour water stripping technology used in the refining industry but in a novel new way in order to vaporize aqueous ammonia.  The Wood scope of work includes ammonia stripping towers, auxiliary equipment skids as well as new aqueous ammonia storage, unloading and forwarding systems.  The project is expected to be commissioned Q1 2021.

Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) System Phillips 66 Refinery – AWARD

Phillips 66 has awarded the design/supply of Selective Catalytic Reduction and Auxiliary Equipment for the Wilmington Refinery NOx reduction project.

The Wilmington Refinery is located near Los Angeles, California and the project is expected to be commissioned Q1 2020.
